Pairing SportsTech with hospitality. Gold Square's delicious twist on a much-loved sport
article
Golf Square began with a shared passion among four partners – a vision to revolutionise the golf experience in Australia with a dynamic space to play, dine, and socialise. Combining state-of-the-art golf simulators with a lively social atmosphere, it quickly became a go-to spot for both enthusiasts and newcomers alike. We spoke with co-founder Brian Nguyen to discover how SilverChef played a crucial role in turning Golf Square into one of Melbourne’s most exciting sports hospitality destinations.
The hospitality dream
For Brian Nguyen and his partners, golf is more than just a game; it’s a passion that brings people together. Their dream? A venue where the thrill of golf and socialising could be accessible to everyone, regardless of experience.
From this vision, Golf Square was born – a unique complex blending high-tech golf simulators with a welcoming sports bar and diverse menu. “We wanted Golf Square to be a place where anyone could enjoy golf, whether they’re seasoned players or just looking to try something new,” says Brian. The goal was to create a space where golf and social interaction could seamlessly coexist.
“SilverChef was integral to our launch. Their Rent-Try-Buy plan eased our initial costs, allowing us to invest more in advertising and building the business. Their support and flexibility made all the difference in helping us get started.”
SilverChef’s hospitality equipment funding
Turning Golf Square into reality brought challenges, especially in managing the costs of setting up a fully equipped venue – one that could deliver a wide variety of food and beverage. The large kitchen, central to their business, required specialised equipment, including an Italian wood-fired pizza oven and other high-end appliances.
SilverChef’s Rent-Try-Buy funding offered the flexibility Brian and his partners needed. “SilverChef was integral to our setup. They provided about 80% of the kitchen equipment we needed, which allowed us to keep our funds free for other critical areas like advertising and building a loyal client base,” Brian explains.
The partnership didn’t just minimise financial pressure; it allowed Golf Square to focus on delivering the best customer experience from day one.
“SilverChef made the process incredibly easy. After just a couple of forms and conversations with our account manager, our application was approved within 24 hours, and everything moved seamlessly from the supplier to us.”
What’s next
Since opening, Golf Square has quickly become a Melbourne favourite, known for its laid back atmosphere and no-pressure blend of sports and socialising. The team’s vision of making golf fun and accessible has well and truly resonated with the community.
Looking ahead, Golf Square plans to expand across Australia, with the potential for multiple sites in each state. SilverChef remains a key partner in this growth strategy. “SilverChef has been an incredible partner, and as we look to expand, we see them playing a key role in our future,” says Brian.
For now, the focus is on maintaining the standards that have made Golf Square a success. “We’re beyond excited to see more people enjoy what we’ve created here,” Brian reflects. “It’s about staying true to our vision and continuing to deliver something special for everybody.”
